KUSA - Just because the tops have frosted, it doesn't necessarily mean some plants have died. The ground has not yet frozen, so you can still salvage summer bulbs such as cannas, dahlias, gladiolus and pineapple lilies.

KUSA - Soil cools down slowly in fall. It's an ideal time to plant perennials, shrubs and trees, as well as move or divide perennials. The roots will settle in quickly and the plants will thrive better than those planted the following spring.

KUSA - It's been a really good year for hummingbird lovers. Ordinarily these tiny birds favor the foothills and mountains, but this year they've ventured down to the Front Range communities. To watch one hovering to drink flower nectar is a great treat.
